Difference Between 60 Hz and 120 Hz LED TVs (With Table)

The refresh rate of a TV determines whether it is 60 hertz or 120 hertz. The refresh rate is the number of times a tv screen has refreshed itself while displaying a video and an image. There are other things as well that lead to the difference among 60 hertz and 120 hertz Tv.

60 Hertz vs 120 Hertz LED TV

The main difference between a 60 hertz LED tv and a 120 hertz LED tv is that the 60 hertz LED Tv refreshes the tv screen about 60 times per second, which means its refresh rate is 60 times/second. On the other hand, a 120 hertz LED tv refreshes the tv screen up to 120 times per second, this means that the refreshment rate of 120-hertz tv is 120 times/sec.

The led tv that has a refreshing rate of 60 times per second is termed 60 hertz led TV. There are many led television with 60 hertz. On a 60 hertz led tv one can watch almost any kind of video without getting interrupted.

The LED TV that has a refreshing rate of 120 times per second is termed 120 hertz LED TV. 120 hertz is mainly used for playing games and watching native content of 24 FPS. 120 hertz led tv decreases the blurring of the 60 hertz LED TV faces. Television with 120 hertz is very expensive.

Comparison Table Between 60 Hz and 120 Hz LED TV

Properties60 Hertz LED TV120 Hertz LED TV
Uses60-hertz TV can be used for watching almost all videos and sometimes it can also be used for playing games. 120 hertz LED TV is commonly used for playing high-quality games that can not be played on 60 hertz led tv.
DefinitionA 60 Hz LED tv refreshes the tv screen 60 times every second.A 120 hertz LED tv refreshes the tv screen 120 times in each second
CostA 60 hertz led tv is slightly less expensive than a 120 Hz led tv.A 120 hertz LED tv is more expensive than a 60 hertz LED tv.
EffectivenessA 60 hertz LED tv has blurriness, film judder. The tv footage in this tv appears smoother than film footage. The smoothness of Tv footage and film footage are similar in 120-hertz tv. It decreases the blurriness that a 60 hertz led tv was facing.
Picture qualityThe picture quality in 60 hertz is good. The picture quality in 120 hertz led tv is excellent but decreases if the wrong setting has been applied.
Frame Rate DifferenceA 60 Hz led tv has to adjust to distribute frames evenly causing flickering, judder, and tearing effects while watching something. This kind of TV uses 3:4 pulldown or interlacing to increase the smoothness. A 120 Hz does not have to adjust, it evenly distributes the frames themselves. This results in smoother video quality.

What is a 60 Hertz LED TV?

A 60-hertz frequency is mainly used for high definition tv like LEDs. In the early stages tv used crystal displays to produce images on the screen which sometimes caused motion blur while watching the video.

In 2007, the 60 hertz was introduced and solved the problem. At that time 60 refresh rates per second were the standard rate. Although it causes some blurriness and film judder. The meaning of 60 refresh rate per second is that the tv screen holds an image for 60 seconds before moving to another image. At this motion business decreases, resulting in the smoother display of videos.

Today 60 hertz is less for tv as it has been decreased by other faster refresh rates like 120 hertz, 240 hertz, and 480 hertz. It is important to note that the film or video content gets produced at a 24-hertz rate so that it can work on every television. But, for playing high-level games, one needs to have TVs with a higher refresh rate.

An LED TV 60 hertz refresh rate does not distribute frames. Therefore it uses a process of interlacing for improving smoothness. But this smoothness creates other types of problems like blurriness and tearing.

What is a 120 Hertz LED TV?

A 120 hertz LED TV is a new generation tv although there are higher frequency rates than this also. The refresh rate of this tv is 120 hertz per second. A 120 hertz LED TV is smoother and works well with tv footage and film.

There is no such thing as a higher refresh rate because it refreshes the screen by creating a motion blur effect or pseudo effect which means duplicating images more frequently. It gives the appearance that it is having a more refreshing rate.

An LED tv with a 120 Hz refresh rate does not do anything unusual to display the whole film or video. This is because 120 is divided by 24 as well as 30.

120 Hz tv is fit for playing high display images. In today’s world, all sporting events and adventure movies are filmed at a higher frame rate. Therefore, at this point, a 120 Hz LED comes into use.

Main Differences Between 60 Hertz LED TV and 120 Hertz LED TV

  1. A 60 hertz LED TV has a refresh rate of 60 times per second. On the other hand, a 120 Hz LED TV has a refresh rate of 120 times per second.
  2. A 60 hertz LED TV can only be used for playing lower quality games. On the other hand, a 120 hertz LED TV is used for playing all types of games.
  3. A 60 hertz LED TV is less expensive than a 120 hertz LED TV.
  4. A 60 hertz LED TV has some film judder. On the other hand, a 120 hertz LED TV removes all the film judder.

Conclusion

In today’s generation, every modern television uses a frequency rate of 120 hertz and higher. But there are still some LED TVs that use 60-hertz frequency and these are budget-friendly also.
